Steadily following the course of the policy of "open doors" and broad international cooperation initiated by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, independent Turkmenistan plays more and more active role in the solution of topical issues of regional and global development. The meetings, negotiations, forums in bilateral and multilateral formats, which took place in August, serve as confirmation for it.
So, at the beginning of August good news arrived from the UN headquarters in New York. According to the proposal of the Turkmen leader, the Resolution "Strengthening of ties between all modes of transport for ensuring stable and reliable international transport for sustainable development during the period and after the pandemic of COVID-19" co-authors of which 48 states acted, was adopted with full consensus at the 96th plenary session of the 75th meeting of UN General Assembly.
This Resolution, which was urged to make a contribution to fight against the coronavirus pandemic around the world supplemented the documents, which were earlier accepted by the UN at the initiative of our country in 2014, 2015 and 2017 in the field of ensuring interaction between all modes of transport.
All this, and the fact that Turkmenistan already for the sixth time was elected as vice-chairman of the jubilee 75th session of UN General Assembly, testifies to strategic nature of consistently extending cooperation with the United Nations.
On August 2, in anticipation of the state visit of President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon to Turkmenistan, in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs the meeting with minister of industry and new technologies of the friendly country Sherali Kabir took place.
On the same day, the Uzbek delegation headed by deputy prime minister, minister of investments and foreign trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov arrived in Turkmenistan with a working visit.
During meetings need of the organization of regular contacts between representatives of the profile ministries and departments and also expansions of relations between business communities of two countries was noted.
The third Consultative meeting of heads of states of Central Asia held on August 6 under the chairmanship of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in Avaza national tourist zone on the coast of the Caspian Sea became its next confirmation.
For participation in the forum which became the central political event of past August President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in our country.
Five more significant events organized according to the proposal of the President of Turkmenistan on the margins of the Consultative meeting of heads of states of Central Asia opened new margins for the regional dialogue. It is the Economic forum of the countries of Central Asia, the Dialogue of women of the countries of Central Asia, the International exhibition of national production of the countries of the region, the International festival of national dishes of people of the countries of Central Asia and a gala concert of masters of culture and arts of the countries of Central Asia.
All these actions which were carried out in the year declared at the initiative of Turkmenistan as International year of peace and trust made a powerful contribution to further rapprochement of people of the states of the region united by centuries-old historical and cultural links, bonds of friendship, a brotherhood and neighbourliness.
It is known that following the results of the Forum the Declaration including recommendations for measures, which need to be accepted at national and regional level for expansion of participation of women in political, social, and economic life of the states, were adopted.
The mutual aspiration to further strengthening and diversification of trade and economic relations visually was illustrated by the Economic forum of the countries of Central Asia held on the same day in the Congress centre of Avaza national tourist zone.
Representatives of business community of our country concluded 74 export-import contracts and agreements on cooperation with the companies of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. 11 important interdepartmental documents, which confirmed intention of the parties to expand mutually beneficial cooperation on a number of key directions, in particular, in the field of transport, international container and multimodal cargo transportation, industry, in oil and gas and electrical power spheres, were also signed.
The International exhibition of national production of the countries of the region developed in the territory of the International seaport of the city of Turkmenbashi became demonstration of dynamic economic growth and high potential of the states of Central Asia.
On August 6 there, in Avaza, meetings of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Kyrgyz commission on trade and economic, scientific, technical, and humanitarian cooperation and the Joint Turkmen-Uzbek commission on trade and economic, scientific, technical, and cultural cooperation took place.
Having discussed the course of implementation of the agreements reached earlier, the parties emphasized importance of search of new ways and forms of activation of traditional partnership taking into account priorities of social and economic development of friendly states.
On August 10 in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting with newly appointed resident coordinator of the UN in Turkmenistan Dmitry Shlapachenko took place.
High productivity of the established constructive partnership of our country with the UN and its specialized agencies was noted.
The scientific and practical conference "Cooperation in Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea" held in the building of the Agricultural complex was devoted to Day of the Caspian Sea which is annually celebrated by the Caspian states on August 12.
At the request of the President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection together with the State Committee for Water Management and Institute of the Caspian Sea organized the forum with assistance the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Heads and specialists of the profile ministries and departments of Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan, and also staff of diplomatic missions accredited in our country, authoritative structures – UN Development Programs (UNDP), the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the European Union, the Program of the UN for Environment (UNEP), Food and Agriculture Organization UN (FAO), Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC), the German society for the international cooperation (GIZ) and others took part in conference, including by video conference,.
On August 15 in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting with Extraordinary and the Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the USA in Turkmenistan Mathew Stephen Klimov was organized during which the present condition of Turkmen-American cooperation in various spheres was discussed. Efficiency of close interaction between diplomatic services of two states was emphasized. The parties also exchanged opinions on the topical issues of regional and international policy representing mutual interest.
Priorities of expansion of humanitarian cooperation with the authoritative organizations, first of all with the UN and its structures, were taken out on the agenda of the next meeting of the Interdepartmental commission on ensuring implementation of the international obligations of Turkmenistan in human rights and international humanitarian law held on August 21.
Participation of the national team in the XXXII summer Olympic Games which were taking place in Tokyo where for the first time in modern history of the Turkmen sport the silver medal was won, became one of significant events of August. The weight-lifter Polina Guryeva, acting in the weight category under 59 kg, showed result of 217 kg, having taken the second place in competitions of planetary scale.
On August 21 in the capital Olympic town the ceremony of celebration of the athletes of national team who brought a powerful contribution to enhancement of world sports authority of Fatherland took place. According to Decrees and Orders of the President of the country in a festive atmosphere deputy chairman of the Cabinet, honoured trainer of Turkmenistan S. Berdimuhamedov handed the athlete and her mentors high state awards.
On August 25-26 in Ashgabat the delegation of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan headed by Minister of Foreign Affairs of the friendly country Shah Mahmoud Qureshi was on a visit.
The negotiations of representatives of foreign policy departments, and also the organizations that are responsible for issues of migration, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and the Republic of Austria held on August 30 in the online mode were devoted to the Afghan subject.
Turkmenistan supports active and constructive dialogue with authorized representatives of the neighbouring country, confirms stability of the situation in border areas and works on maintenance of due operation of freight traffic, activity of border checkpoints between two states on the basis of the mutual arrangement.
So, at the end of August representatives the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministries of Health and Medical Industry, and also a number of profile and power departments of our country met authorized representatives of the province Faryab of Afghanistan, in particular, of khyakims of Andkhoy, Hancharbag, Gurgan and the chief of customs point of Akin.
Thus, the presented overview of events of the last month of summer became an evident illustration of the large-scale work carried out by ministries and departments of the country to realize the constructive foreign policy and the important international initiatives of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, which finding support in all corners of the planet and aimed at the maximum promotion and involvement of many-sided potential of our independent neutral Fatherland.
