Today, at the coast of the Caspian sea, in Avaza national tourist zone, within the large international actions organised at the initiative of Turkmenistan, the Dialogue of women of Central Asia with participation of representatives of five countries of the region, heads of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia and UNDP's Regional Bureau for Europe and the CIS (RBEC) took place.
The main theme of the Dialogue – the role of women in strengthening of interstate cooperation, development of social and economic relations, cultural and scientific contacts, interactions in the area of public health services. The issues connected with participation of women in the state and public affairs also were included in the agenda, realisations of transformations and reforms, including carried out for maintenance of gender equality, protection of their rights and interests.
At the opening solemn ceremony the gathered with deep attention listened to the welcoming notes of heads of the states of Central Asia in which the high importance and a historical role of the women as keepers of the family hearth, carrier of national customs and traditions, transferring cultural and spiritual heritage to the younger generations of the people of Central Asia and by that participating in development and strengthening of bases of life of society in our countries was especially underlined.
In the video format Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, the UNDP Assistant Administrator and Director of UNDP’s Regional Bureau for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States who having expressed warm gratitude to the Government of Turkmenistan for the organisation at high level of the present meeting joined greetings and congratulated the countries-participants of the Dialogue on the 30th anniversary of state independence marked in the current year.
In her speech chairwoman of the Mejlis of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan G.Mammedova underlined that the forum is an effective platform for discussions which will promote development of uniform approaches in strengthening of peace and security by means of maintenance of gender equality.
Following the results of the forum the Declaration including the recommendations concerning measures which are necessary for accepting at national and regional levels for expansion of participation of women in political and social and economic life of the states was accepted.
