Today, the capital’s Ýyldyz Hotel has hosted the first meeting of the Coordination Mechanism, organized with the aim of implementing the Project entitled ‘Building the Capacity of Turkmenistan and Supporting the Development of Country Programs and Regional Action on Climate Change”.
Among those taking part in the two-day training workshop were senior officials of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Adalat, Ministry of Health and Medical Industry, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Finance and Economy, the State Committee for Water Management, the State Statistics Committee, as well as representatives of the Mejlis Milli Gengesh, the Academy of Sciences, and the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.
The Project envisages the provision of assistance to Turkmenistan in the field of climate change and sustainability in line with its international climate change commitments, priorities and national development objectives by offering improved access, managing and monitoring climate finance through the Fund.
Closer cooperation and combined efforts of the global community to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals are seen as the key aspects of the environmental policy being implemented under the guidance of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for the sake of happiness and general welfare.
Partners from the Green Climate Fund and the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia (CAREC) offered the participants revealing insights into major aspects of the project aimed to establish effective cooperation with the Fund, to increase the capacity of interested parties, and to create effective mechanisms for managing and coordinating climate actions and finance. To this end, the Coordination Mechanism will begin to operate, coordination procedures will be approved, and the Country Program will be developed.
