Meeting of President of Turkmenistan and President of Uzbekistan in Ashgabat

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in Ashgabat. After a warm welcome at the Ashgabat international airport, the Uzbek leader headed to the Oguzhan Presidential Palace Complex. The President of Turkmenistan welcomed the distinguished guest at the central entrance to the complex.

As President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted during the conversation that took place later, the Turkmen-Uzbek ties that traced back centuries were based on the bonds of friendship and centuries-old traditions of good neighborliness.

 Expressing condolences over the death of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov's father, the head of the friendly state wished the leader of Turkmenistan and his family members patience and fortitude in this difficult time.

The President of Uzbekistan underlined that willed by Allah Almighty, Myalikguly-aga left this world on the bright days of the sacred to all Muslims month of Oraza. This noble man will forever remain in the hearts of his loved ones and all compatriots as a wise mentor and a true patriot, who dedicated his whole life to selfless service to the Fatherland and his native people. The head of Uzbekistan emphasized that the name of Myalikguly Berdimuhamedov, the blessed memory of him, would forever be inscribed in the history of Turkmenistan.

The distinguished guest also noted that it was a great honour for him to participate in the sadaka-agzachar, which the Turkmen leader had given in the Main Mosque of Turkmenistan and wished that the sadaka and prayers read during it were accepted by the Almighty.

Thanking President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for his condolences, the Turkmen leader stressed that he highly appreciated and valued the fact that the President of Uzbekistan personally shared pain and sorrow in such difficult days as a true friend.

During the meeting, which took place in an atmosphere of mutual understanding and trust, the heads of the two states discussed the state and prospects for the development of the Turkmen-Uzbek dialogue across the entire spectrum of areas.

Underlining the importance of enhancing cooperation in the trade and economic sphere, Presidents Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Shavkat Mirziyoyev also emphasized the significance of intensifying contacts in the humanitarian sphere, which is an integral part of interstate relations.

Moreover, the parties exchanged views on a number of crucial issues of the regional and international agenda of mutual interest.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov reaffirmed his commitment to expanding relations between the two neighboring countries based on the principles of mutual respect and trust, as well as the commonality of historical, cultural and spiritual values.

At the end of the meeting, the joint motorcade of the President of Turkmenistan and President of Uzbekistan headed to the Main Mosque of the country in Kipchak. The leaders of the two countries honoured the memory of the first President of Turkmenistan. Then President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov gave a sadaka-agzachar.
