Videoconference meeting with foreign partners

Within the framework of the Dialogue of High-Ranking Women, representatives of the national parliaments of Turkmenistan, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan held a videoconference consultative meeting on February 23.

The agenda of the online forum included preparations for the 65th session of the Commission on the Status of Women, a structure of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

Åsa Regnér, Assistant Secretary-General and Deputy Executive Director for Normative Support, Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations, Assistant Administrator of UNDP, and Director of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Europe and the CIS and Natalia Gherman, Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Central Asia, the Head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) spoke during the meeting.

Ensuring gender equality and empowering women is one of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Turkmenistan, as a full member of the Community of Nations that has acceded to the basic international conventions in this area, strictly follows the undertaken commitments.

In accordance with the Constitution of Turkmenistan and generally accepted norms of international law, the policy pursued by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov prioritized guaranteeing of equal rights and freedoms for men and women. Moreover, the national legislation is systematically improved, the National Action Plan for Ensuring Gender Equality for 2021-2025 has been adopted.

During the meeting, the Action Plan for 2021 was discussed and adopted.
