Today, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan has set forth our country’s position on environmental issues at the Central Asia-Korea Cooperation Forum taking place online. As highlighted, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov regards environmental protection as one of the top-priorities of the state policy. This is amply evidenced by Turkmenistan’s national plans, programs, regional and international initiatives, particularly the National Climate Change Strategy and the National Forest Program, which are in line with the Paris Agreement. Particular attention was given to cooperation with the Republic of Korea on environmental projects, including in the field of forest management and air quality monitoring in Turkmenistan. In this context, the Foreign Minister emphasized that the shrinking Aral Sea is one of the most serious environmental problems in Central Asia, which is increasingly becoming a matter of global concern. And Turkmenistan calls for closer partnership in this area.
