The Interdepartmental Commission of Turkmenistan on the Caspian Sea held a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Vice-Premiers, heads of a number of ministries and departments attended the meeting that focused on the preparations for the VI Summit of Heads of the Caspian littoral states, which is to be held in Turkmenistan. Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov emphasized that Turkmenistan took proactive position in developing balanced solutions on the Caspian Sea problem. Our country played an important role in the development of a legal framework for cooperation in the Caspian Sea, and this process continues in close cooperation with all the Caspian littoral states within the framework of international law and taking into account the environmental component. The Minister of Foreign Affairs focused on the importance of the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea, signed in Aktau on August 12, 2018, which is a basic document that secures the legal norms of cooperation on the Caspian Sea in various fields. As emphasized, Turkmenistan will continue to take all necessary efforts to enhance mutually beneficial cooperation in the Caspian Sea across the entire spectrum of areas, including economy, ecology, security, transport, etc. At the same time, in the context of the priority foreign policy vector of the country - environmental diplomacy - special attention will be paid to mitigating the consequences of climate change, promoting green economy. The Minister of Foreign Affairs underlined the importance of preparatory works for the VI Summit of the Heads of the Caspian States and outlined the priority areas of this work. In particular, the attention of the meeting participants was focused on the development of appropriate legal and economic mechanisms to expand the base and range of cooperation. As emphasized, Turkmenistan will continue to work actively in this direction in order to ensure peace and stability, strengthen friendship, good-neighborliness and cooperation between the states of the Caspian region.
