Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan participates in dialogue Central Asia – China

Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov took part in the first ministerial meeting in the format “Central Asia-China” held in a videoconference format. The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan, the Republic of Uzbekistan and the People's Republic of China also took part in the online meeting. In the course of a constructive dialogue, the participants discussed a number of key issues to promote cooperation in the political and diplomatic sphere, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation, partnership of medical specialists. One of the main topics of discussion was the issues of maintaining the stability of economies and reducing social consequences in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as consolidated actions to prevent and contain the spread of coronavirus infection. Speaking during the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Rashid Meredov underlined the importance of cooperation in this format and suggested to specify the deliberative mechanisms within the framework of the CA-China dialogue. It was emphasized that the countries of Central Asia and China have powerful resource, economic, scientific and industrial potential and can make a significant contribution to ensuring global peace, stable development and security. The parties discussed cooperation within the framework of international structures, underlined the importance of mutual support at the UN platform. They also considered the Afghan problem and the possibilities of promoting the peace process in this country. During the online meeting, they discussed the prospects for cooperation in the field of energy, transport, high technologies, agriculture, and science. On the outcomes of the meeting, the parties adopted a Joint Communique.
