“I congratulate you on the widely celebrated World Bicycle Day! I believe that the celebrations dedicated to this holiday will multiply the pride in our independent neutral state in our hearts and inspire to new successes”, said President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in his congratulatory address. “At present, continuing the Turkmen people’s centuries-old traditions, we are creating all the opportunities for our citizens to practice sports. Along with national sports, we develop sports that are very popular all around the world and are included into the programme of the Olympic Games, including cycling that promotes good health and improves ecological well-being. “Cycling has become very popular in our country, the organization of bike rides on occasion of national holidays and significant dates has become a good tradition. “In 2020, when the 25th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality is widely celebrated, on occasion of the World Bicycle Day, declared by the United Nations General Assembly, we will open a new monument “Bicycle” in the Turkmen capital. Physical culture and sports events, festive celebrations will take place on the arenas of large sports complexes and stadiums. All this strengthens the role of the World Cycling Day in the life of society”, emphasizes the President of Turkmenistan. “Our main goal is to transform the Fatherland into a powerful state with a developed socio-economic and cultural component, happy and healthy people, physically and spiritually healthy generations. We successfully implement national programmes in this direction, and carry out comprehensive reforms. “Currently, in cities and villages, according to the programme of socio-economic development of the country for 2019-2025, comprehensive work continues to expand the infrastructure of sports facilities. “We also pay great attention to strengthening international sports cooperation. We expand partnerships with the International Olympic Committee, the Olympic Council of Asia, the United Nations Office on Sport for Development and Peace, the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sport, the World Health Organization, and international and interregional sports organizations. “The unanimous adoption of the Resolution, declaring June 3rd as the World Bicycle Day by the UN General Assembly testifies that the initiatives to strengthen peace, friendship, positive cooperation put forward by our neutral state are supported by the international community”, the President of Turkmenistan says.
