Last week, the conference hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted a regional forum - «International cooperation in the sphere of migration and emergency readiness», convened by the Government of Turkmenistan in association with the International Organization for Migration. Delegations from the Central Asian countries and Afghanistan, heads of diplomatic missions accredited to our country, leaders of the ministries and departments concerned, representatives of public organizations, foreign and domestic media communities took part in the work of the forum. As the speakers noted, the trends of political, economic and social processes occurring in the contemporary world are in need of closer and dovetailed cooperation between the states and major international organizations to ensure global peace, security and sustainable development. Speaking about the importance of forum, its participants concentrated on its key goal - to identify constructive approaches to solving the urgent problems in the sphere of migration. The speakers to the forum - Regional Director of the International Organization for Migration in Vienna Ms. Renate Held, the UN Resident Coordinator, UNDP Resident Representative in Turkmenistan Ms. Jacinta Barrins, and others - stressed that constructive cooperation in this area was aimed at uniting the humanitarian efforts in the name of lofty goals. As was noted, the Turkmen state gives close attention to the migration issues. Welcoming Turkmenistan’s practical steps in this area, as well as the humanitarian actions carried out by our country, including rendering assistance to Afghanistan, Nepal and other countries affected by natural disasters, the speakers stressed that all of this found a broad response among the global community of nations. The forum participants also noted timeliness of the Turkmen leader’s initiative on establishing a specialized structure under the auspices of the United Nations - the Regional Technologies Center, related to climate change in Central Asia. During the plenary sessions, consideration was given to the countries’ strategies and advanced practices as applied to crises prevention, migration, emergencies, etc.
