Last week, a regional meeting of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies was held in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. Deputies of Mejlis of Turkmenistan, representatives of a number of ministries, departments, and international organizations accredited to our country, senior executives of the National Red Crescent and Red Cross Societies of the CIS countries, Afghanistan, Iran, Georgia, Latvia and Estonia participated in the representative forum. In the course of the meeting, a detailed report was delivered on the work done by the National Red Crescent Society of Turkmenistan over recent years, including in the sphere of reproductive health, prevention of a number of extremely dangerous diseases, organization of large events aimed to control tobacco smoking among youth people. According to the participants of the forum, at which topical issues of present-day world were under discussion, the meeting succeeded in achieving its goal, since the noble mission, whose main principle was promotion of the most important values – protection of human life, health and dignity, brought together all its attendees. As speakers noted, the peaceful and humane policy, initiated and steadily pursued by President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov, is built upon those very principles. Within the framework of the forum, its participants were familiarized with the work of national societies at the local level; concepts of legal base review, fundamental principles in the humanitarian activities and others were submitted for consideration. In particular, it was noted that at all stages of its development, the National Society of Turkmenistan had been realizing ideals of beneficence, protection of human life and health. Following the Turkmen people’s humane traditions, the National Red Crescent Society of Turkmenistan honorably represents its country in the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in the new epoch of power and happiness. The Agreement between the Government of Turkmenistan and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies on the legal status of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in Turkmenistan, which would become a legal platform for the activity of the National Red Crescent Society in Turkmenistan, was an outcome document signed at the regional meeting of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
