On May 8, President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov took part in a solemn meeting with war veterans and widows of soldiers, which was held in the “Maslahat Köşgi” Palace on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory in the War of 1941-1945. The head of state warmly greeted war veterans, elders and grey-haired mothers and asked after their health with filial care. Addressing the meeting participants, who were sitting at the same table, the President of Turkmenistan congratulated everyone on the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the War of 1941-1945. These years have gone down in history of mankind as the time of severe trial and hardship. The war was one of the most dreadful and murderous wars in the world history since it took millions of human lives. The meeting attendees also with honor went through the war and overcame severe ordeals, defending our wonderful Motherland, heroically struggled for universal peace and well-being. The President of Turkmenistan expressed heartfelt gratitude to the war veterans, who displayed heroism defending their native country and the people, their great services performed for a happy life of the present generations. Our compatriots became the models of unparalleled courage not only in the war, but also on the home front. During the stern years of the war everyone – old men, women and children worked very hard day and night on the home front, having shown a model of patriotism and humanism. Although many years have passed since then, the unparalleled heroism of Turkmen soldiers, demonstrated in battles for the Motherland, will be never forgotten, the leader of nation emphasized. And young women, our mothers, who sent the relatives off to the war, remained selflessly committed to the hearth and home. Therefore, our brave veterans and selfless home front workers are role models of patriotism and humanism for the present generation. During the meeting, which was held over a cup of tea, the veterans expressed deep gratitude to President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov for continuous support given to them by the state, necessary conditions created for their well-being and good care taken of them in Turkmen society. We proudly take part in mass social activities, advocacy, explanatory and patriotic work, and will continue to serve our native country in peacetime, the veterans said, having wished the leader of nation great success in his many-sided activity for the country’s prosperity, and our people’s well-being and happy life. Sincerely appreciative to the veterans of the kind wishes, the President of Turkmenistan encouraged them to further make their contribution to the preservation of spiritual values and moral principles of society. As known, the “Halk Hakydasy” Memorial was built in the Turkmen capital to commemorate our heroic compatriots who had fallen in all the wars, as well as victims of the destructive earthquake in Ashgabat in 1948. The “Baky Şöhrat” and “Milletiň Ogullary” Monuments were erected as a part of the Memorial Complex in honor of valorous defenders of the Motherland, who had died on the battlefields of the War of 1941-1945. The magnificent Memorial, which symbolizes our deep respect and veneration of unparalleled courage and heroism of our glorious ancestors and brave sons of the native country, is a striking illustration of the fact that the national commemorative traditions have their continuation in the modern epoch, the head of state noted. During the conversation of President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov with the veterans, consideration was also given to such a remarkable date, as the 20th anniversary of the recognition of Turkmenistan’s status of permanent neutrality by the world community. To mark the occasion, 2015 has been announced the Year of Neutrality and Peace. A number of momentous events are being organized in Turkmenistan and beyond to celebrate the significant date. As a neutral state, we invariably act as a supporter of peaceful coexistence and take all necessary measures to ensure a happy and prosperous life for the people, the head of state emphasized. Committed to the legal neutral status, independent Turkmenistan makes a considerable contribution to maintaining peace in the whole world. If the sky above is clear, there will be abundance of food on our tables, the people will live peacefully and happily, and the sovereign Motherland will continue to prosper. Then, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov presented money and valuable gifts to the war veterans and widows of soldiers in honor of the 70th anniversary of the Victory.
