Among strategic fields of partnership mentioned at the Turkmenistan–Azerbaijan high-level talks that were held in Ashgabat was transport, where broad opportunities exist for the development of transit and transport and logistics infrastructure. A particular example of that is signing of the relevant agreement on the Afghanistan–Turkmenistan–Azerbaijan–Georgia–Turkey (Lapis Lazuli) transport corridor to access Europe. In this regard, the sides mentioned effective contacts with relevant international structures: TRACECA, the International Road Transport Union (IRU) and others. As well as Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan has the modern infrastructure in this field. Specifically, ports facilitate building effective links across motorway–ferry and railway ferry lines, and forming an extensive logistics network.
