The World Weightlifting Championship starts in Ashgabat

The World Weightlifting Championship in Ashgabat is unique as it is the first championship after the reformation of the weight categories of International Weightlifting Federation. Stands of Martial Arts Sport complex have gathered numerous spectators in the first day of the tournament. The competitions were opened by women in D and C groups in the weight category up to 55 kg. Chika Joy Amalaha took leading positions in this category having lifted 202 kg in total. Due to achieved results, she took over everybody in both groups. The winner will be defined on November 3 when A group will join the contest. It has the strongest sportswomen in this weight category. Kristina Shermetova, silver winner of 2017 World Championship in Anaheim and the best hope of Turkmen National team, will compete for the medals. She proved high level at Summer Asian Games in Jakarta, having also won the silver. It gives hop for good result in current tournament. New world record became the adornment of the day. Although the strongest sportsmen will join the competition later, the first world record of the world championship in Ashgabat has been set already. 16 years old Serjo Massida from Italy has lifted 236 kg in B group in the weight category up to 55 kg. this is one kg more than the best result for juniors. This is the first tournament of such level for the athlete. The medallists of this weight category will be known on the next day. Men’s competitions in C group in the weight category up to 61 kg have been completed. Japanese sportsmen Hiroaki Takao lifted 272 kg in total and has the best result. Champions in the lightest weight category up to 45 kg in women will be known on November 2. It raises special interest of Turkmen fans as the country will presented by numerous prize-winner of international tournaments Yulduz Jumabayeva. Men’s competitions in the weight categories up to 61, 67 and 73 kg and women’s competitions in C and B groups in the weight categories up to 49 kg will start on the same day.
