Speaking during the opening ceremony of the first in the country combined gas and steam turbine power station that works based on the coordinated control with Mary hydro-electric power station, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted the new modern power station vividly testified to the successful implementation of the Concept for the Development of the Electricity Industry of Turkmenistan in 2013-2020. The total capacity of the new facility is 1,574 megawatts. The station has four gas turbines, each with a capacity of 263.25 megawatts and two steam turbines with a capacity of 260.5 megawatts each - the products of the American company General Elektrik. The peculiarity of the work of this station is that when steam turbines are used, the temperature of the harmful gases leaving the gas turbines produces additional electricity. The introduction of modern technology into the industry creates all necessary conditions for the organization of waste-free production, a significant reduction of harmful emissions into the atmosphere. The Turkmen leader noted that this would allow efficiently using the natural gas consumed for the production of electricity and receiving additional electricity without consuming excess fuel. With the commissioning of the station, the reliability of the electricity supply to consumers will increase. Annually, the volume of harmful emissions into the atmosphere will be reduced by 3.1 million tons. At the same time, this will allow increasing electric energy export capacity to foreign countries up to three billion kilowatt-hours. The President of Turkmenistan emphasized that we were planning to diversify the routes of electricity supplies and increase export volumes and noted that the construction of the electricity-conducting system ""Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan"" had been launched in February this year. Then, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov cut the symbolic ribbon, opening the new power station and visited the Production control centre.
