On the occasion of the upcoming 73rd anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic war of 1941-1945, the capital’s Mekan Palace hosted a ceremony to honor war veterans and widows of fallen warriors and present money, valuable gifts and bouquets of spring flowers from the President of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. An exhibition of paintings, photographs and books showcasing exemplary courage and resilience of those who forged the victory on the battlefields and through feats of labor on the home front was installed in the festively decorated hall of the palace. During the first days of war, thousands of our fellow citizens volunteered to go to war and demonstrated resilience and valor in fierce fighting. Turkmen nationals were bestown the high title of Hero for their courage, while thousands of warriors were decorated with awards and medals, many of them posthumously. In the days of May sincere, cordial words of appreciation and congratulations go to our dear veterans and workers on the home front. These days, in honor of glorious heroes who defended peace in the world and brought us closer to the Victory Day, all towns and villages of the country are hosting conferences and meetings, cultural campaigns and sporting events. The celebration at the Mekan Palace gathered war veterans and widows; heads and representatives of ministries and government agencies, public organizations, capital city authority, military and law enforcement authorities, universities; cultural figures and media professionals. Speakers on stage thanked the heroes of the Great Victory for their exemplary feat in the name of peace, happiness and prosperity of the country. Their resilience and love for homeland deserve highest respect and will forever remain a high moral compass for future generations. As noted, the people of Turkmenistan have always been committed to the principles of humanism and built relations with other peoples solely on the basis of friendship and mutual understanding. The historical memory serves to inspire development of wide international cooperation in the interest of the common good. In their speeches veterans and widows thanked President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for his care of the older generation, sustained attention to war veterans and families of fallen warriors. Decent living conditions were created for them thanks to numerous benefits. In the solemn setting veterans and widows of heroes received commemorative gifts and flowers. Renowned singers and bands performed musical tributes. Ceremonies to honor war veterans and widows of fallen warriors were held in all provinces of the country.
