The Mejlis of Turkmenistan has held a meeting with the wife of the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani – Rula Ghani, who arrived to attend the 7th Regional Economic Conference on Afghanistan. In the course of the meeting, the guest was familiarized with the present-day tasks of the country’s supreme legislative authority, key trends in the activity of the Turkmen parliament in the light of the ongoing legal and socio-economic reforms and massive state development programs. Highly praising Turkmenistan’s openness to beneficial international cooperation and its foreign policy based on the status of neutrality, Mrs. Rula Ghani expressed her appreciation to the Turkmen leader and the people of the brotherly country for considerable assistance in restoring peace and stability in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and their neighborly support. The visit to Ashgabat by representatives of business communities of the region’s countries is yet another testament to the growing interest of Central Asian companies in expanding mutually profitable partnership across a wide spectrum of trade-economic relations, the guest said, touching upon the business forum, held today as part of the Regional Economic Conference on Afghanistan. During a lively exchange of opinions, the attendees highlighted the need to strengthen humanitarian and cultural relations between Turkmenistan and Afghanistan, and considered prospects of cooperation in the legal sphere, including gender equality.
