Ashgabat hosted two-day seminar “Topical Aspects of the Improvement of the Legislation in Mass Media” organized by the OSCE Centre.
Representatives of the Mejlis, the Ministry of Justice, educational institutions and mass media took part in the seminar. The participants discussed such topical subjects as modern economic models of the mass media, private mass media and competitive environment, financing, controlling and legislative provision issues.
These subjects were reviewed in details in the aspect of legal regulation of broadcasting activity and practice of informational support of large sport competitions and others. Chief Editors of leading Turkmen media and international experts of the OSCE had round-table discussion on the reformation of mass media in Turkmenistan.
The speakers noted that the improvement of work of national media, correspondence of their activity with time demands and the objectives of social, political and democratic development are the main directions of informational policy of Turkmenistan. In this regard, the study of the best international experience in this sphere for further implementation in national practice of mass media taking into account spiritual and cultural traditions of our people is an integral part of the modernization of mass media.
In this context, further improvement of legal and regulatory basis of mass media activities, educational component as well as use of advanced technologies and modern approaches are important aspects.
Having stated the success of long-term beneficial partnership for further improvement of professional qualification of national mass media personnel, the participants of the forum spoke for continuation of efficient cooperation and interested exchange of the experience in this direction.
