On November, the Turkmen capital hosted the talks between President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov and President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas, who the night before arrived in Turkmenistan on his first official visit.
In the morning, the motorcade of the distinguished guest accompanied by the honor escorts of motorcyclists and cavalry proceeded from “ Oguzkent” Hotel to the Independence Square of the capital.
The official arrival ceremony of the President of Palestine was impressive.
The Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov greeted the head of the friendly state with accustomed courtesy and the comradeship.
The heads of Turkmenistan and Palestine received a report from the Guard of Honor Commander. Then the national anthems of the two friendly countries played. The presidents made a bow to the National Flags and moved slowly past the Guard of Honor.
The President of Turkmenistan introduced the distinguished guest to the members of Turkmenistan’s Government delegation and heads of diplomatic missions accredited to our country. President Mahmoud Abbas, in turn, introduced the President of Turkmenistan to the members of the Government delegation of the State of Palestine.
Towards the end of the arrival ceremony, the Guard of Honors marched across the Independence Square
Then President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov and President of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas proceeded to the Palace Complex.
After traditional posing alone for official photographs against the National Flags of the two countries, the high-level bilateral talks in the one-on-one format started.
The head of Turkmenistan warmly welcomed the President of Palestine and thanked Mahmoud Abbas for accepting the invitation to pay a first-time visit to our country. President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov gave also assurances that that truly historical meeting would launch a new stage of the mutually beneficial multi-format cooperation.
Grateful to President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov for warm hospitality he was welcomed in the Turkmen land, Mahmoud Abbas stressed that he, in turn, was also sincerely glad to have an opportunity to visit independent neutral Turkmenistan which is currently playing a key role in Central Asia. Showing keen interest and readiness of Palestine to activate and deepen the all-round ties with our country, President Mahmoud Abbas conveyed to President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov warm greetings from his people that nourish most friendly, fraternal feelings for the Turkmen people.
In the course of talks, the two countries’ leaders exchanged views on the prospects of the Turkmen-Palestinian partnership future development in a wide range of areas and confirmed the sides’ striving for intensifying the political dialogue which is regarded as a reliable basis for increasing the commercial and economic, cultural and humanitarian ties.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, President Mahmoud Abbas has extended to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov an invitation to pay a return official visit to Palestine.
Negotiations then continued in the enlarged format with participation of the members of the two countries’ official delegations.
Referring to the subject of interstate political and diplomatic ties, the Turkmen leader noted with satisfaction their stable development. Exchange of visits on the government level and consultations between the foreign offices of the two countries are a tangible evidence of it, said he.
Emphasizing that opening of the Embassy of the State of Palestine in Ashgabat during the current visit will become yet another evidence of ever increasing dynamics of the bilateral relations, President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov has assured his Palestinian colleague that the Turkmen side would create every condition for the proper functioning of the the fraternal country’s diplomatic mission in our beautiful capital.
The sides exchanged opinions on the ways of advancing, strengthening and expanding cooperation in such areas, as science and education, culture and art. Focusing on the crucial importance of furthering the cultural contacts between Turkmenistan and the State of Palestine, the Turkmen leader noted that it would be advisable to hold Culture Days in both countries in 2017 and 2018.
Healthcare, recreational and health-promoting activities were sorted out as another significant vector of the Turkmen-Palestinian cooperation.
Consideration was also given to several other important current issues, primarily in such strategic areas as strengthening the global security and sustainable development system.
Negotiations were followed by the ceremony of signing bilateral documents.
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov and President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas signed a Joint Statement. Then, the following documents were signed in the presence of the leaders of the two countries: Agreement between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the State of Palestine on Economic Cooperation; Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the State of Palestine on Cooperation in Higher Education; Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the State of Palestine on Cooperation in Tourism; Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Economy and Development of Turkmenistan and the Palestinian Investment Promotion Agency; Memorandum of Understanding between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan and the Chamber of Commerce of the State of Palestine.
After the documents signing ceremony, the heads of the two states made an address to the press.
In conclusion, the President of Palestine extended to the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov wishes of good health and further success in his important activity, and wishes of well-being and prosperity - to the people of Turkmenistan.
In the afternoon, the Palestinian President’s motorcade proceeded to Kipchak where Mr. Mahmoud Abbas paid tribute to the first President of Turkmenistan, having laid flowers in the Mausoleum.
Then the head of Palestine laid flowers to the Monument of Independence of Turkmenistan. Following the established tradition, President Mahmoud Abbas planted a young tree in the Alley of Honorable Guests in the capital’s Independence Park as a sign of friendship between the two countries and peoples.
On the arrival to his high-guest residence at Oguzkent Hotel, the President of Palestine viewed the Hotel-organized “sweet” exhibition, which featured a wide range of Turkmen apiculture products - various types of delicious and healthy honey notably.
In the evening, President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov gave an official dinner in honor of the distinguished guest where the leaders of the two countries exchanged speeches.
On November 15, the final day of his visit to Turkmenistan, President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas had a meeting at the National Parliament with the Chairperson Akja Nurberdyeva.
The distinguished guest was briefed on the structure and legislative activities of the Turkmen Parliament, as well as on the key aspects of domestic and foreign policy pursued by President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov and traditionally aimed at establishing wide international cooperation for the sake of global peace, security and sustainable development.
Grandiose innovative reforms and socio-economic transformations initiated and implemented in Turkmenistan under the leadership of President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov were a special topic of the meeting.
During the meeting, the sides also exchanged opinions on the availability of untapped potential and opportunities for cooperation, on advisability of establishing closer ties between the legislative bodies of the two countries.
