The Agricultural complex hosted scientific and practical conference dedicated to the World Environment Day. Specialists of natural protection structures and profile departments, deputies of National parliament, representatives of scientific community, universities and public organizations of the country as well as big international and regional organizations like the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the UN Industrial Development Organization, the UN Regional Centre of Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), European Union, Central Asia Regional Ecological Centre (CAREC), German International Cooperation Society and other were among the participants of the forum. Some of these foreign partners took part in the forum in online mode.
The reports presented at the forum comprehensively highlighted that versatile work that is carried out in Turkmenistan for provision of ecological wealth of the country.
Having ratified fundamental natural protection agreements of the UN, including the Conventions on biological diversity, protection of ozone layer, combating desertification, protection of use of transboundary water ways and international lakes, Ramsar Convention on wetlands as well as Convention on protection of the world cultural and natural heritage of the UNESCO and Paris Treaty on Climate Change, Turkmenistan strictly follows undertaken obligations.
Dozens of projects and projects are implemented in these spheres with the UN Development Programme, the UN Environment Programme, Global Economic Fund, European Union, UN Food and Agricultural Organization, International Fund for Saving of Aral Sea, Regional Ecological Asia of Central Asia, German International Cooperation Society and other competent structures in the scales of the country and region. At present time, this productive cooperation enters higher levels involving new participants and partners to its orbit.
Being one of the first countries, which adapted the SDGs on national level, Turkmenistan actively participates in implementation of 2030 Global Agenda and carries out this work on systematic base. Our country has positive practice, which is required in the region and in the world, on each of directions of programme document of the UN.
Proposing these initiatives, our country takes certain measures for their practical implementation. Big work is carried out in the sphere of rational use of water, land and biological resources, protection of biodiversity and natural landscapes, combating desertification, ecological education of the population. The utmost attention is paid formation of effective mechanisms of clean development in oil and gas sector, power energy, chemical industry, transport and other branches, which allow reducing emission of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere.
At the same time, big work is carried out for protection of our nature in pristine form. The Karakum Desert is one of the brightest natural attractions of Turkmen nature. Flora and fauna, unique landscapes of Koytendag, Badhyz and Repetek Reserves, Bereketly Garagum State Natural Reserve are integral parts of national heritage, which deserve to be listed in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Protection of environment of Caspian Sea, careful use of its richest natural and biological resources are important aspects of international ecological cooperation. The significance paid to support f ecological wealth of Caspian Sea, is provided by special status of this water reserves, which has become true pearl with exclusively rich and variable flora and fauna.
Unique natural complex – Hazar State Natural Reserve is located at eco-friendly Turkmen coast of Caspian Sea. Hundreds of species of flora and fauna are endemics, the plants and animals, which are limited in their habitation, thus making unique gene pool of biological diversity of the planet.
Reports on various aspects of cooperation of Turkmenistan with international organizations under joint programmes and projects, especially in the sphere of rational water management, energy efficiency, combating desertification and land degradation, adapting to climate change, enhancement of agricultural and water management potential, sustainable development of the cities and other.
