In the afternoon, the President of Turkmenistan visited new sightseeing of the capital of the Emirates – the Louvre Museum Abu Dhabi.
It is located on Saadiyat Island and is the first museum outside France with Louvre name. It was opened under the Agreement between the Republic of France and United Arab Emirates. The branch of the famous French museum received the Louvre name for thirty years and would organize temporary expositions as well as would present consultative and expert services. The Louvre in Paris will get 400 million euros for that.
Built by the project of French architect Jean Nouvel, the Louvre Museum Abu Dhabi (the cost of construction is 600 million euros) was opened in November 2017 with the participation of President of France Emmanuel Macron, Vice-President of UAE, Prime Minister, Emir of DUbau Sheikh Muhammed Bin Rasheed Al- Makhtoum and Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Muhammed Bin Zayed Al Nahayan. In the nearest future, it is planned to open other two museums on the artificial island – the branch of American Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and Sheikh Zayed National Historical Museum.
…The motorcade of the President of Turkmenistan arrived to the central entrance of the museum where high-rank guest was met by Museum Director Manuel Rabate and his Deputy Hissa Al Daheri.
Having greeted and welcomed in Turkmen leader, Mr Rabate told short story about the establishment of the museum, its organization and exposition, which main idea is to represent the chronicle of humanity, different epochs, cultures and civilizations in art items.
Louvre Abu Dhabi is a universal museum space uniting 55 buildings covered by huge dome 180 meters in diameter and weighing 7.5 thousand tons. The sun beams come through incised silver dome making original scattering of the light patches reminding the play of light in palm oasis of UAE. White cubes of the exhibition halls of the museum symbolize the houses of Arabic settlements and present the metaphor of Madinah. Water channels flow between and inside the building making terraces and squares. All of these make feeling of the freedom of space, which is totally different from usual museum surrounding.
Answering the questions of Turkmen leader, the Director of the Abu Dhabi Louvre Museum told about technical provision of the exhibition halls, technologies used for protection of valuable artefacts as well as how this unique complex has been created with the participation of the specialists of Paris Louvre.
Accompanied by the management of the Museum, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov looked around the exhibits of different exhibition halls. It exhibits the paintings, sculptures, books and other interesting artefacts collected from all over the world both modern and ancient.
Rabate said that Abu Dhabi Louvre is the embodiment of the imagination that variety and transparency are required for the prosperity of any nation and the policy of the museum focuses on the demonstration of historical connections of our world.
The territory of the museum is divided into 12 theme segments. The exposition includes 600 exhibits where half of them were brought from French museums for temporary demonstration and around 100 of items came directly from the Louvre. The works by Leonardo Da Vinci, whose masterpieces have never been to Arabic countries, Van Gogh, Picasso, Gaugin, Manet, Matisse, Rodin, Kandinsky, Pollock and other are among the main exhibits.
In addition, there are theme exhibition halls representing the epochs of Roman Empire, Ancient Greece, China, South Americal, Europe, Asia and local archaeological findings. The complex also includes children’s museum, café, educational and research centre.
Having looked around the expositions that cover the periods from the Stone Age until the Antiquity and Medieval and ended up by modern art galleries, modern and abstractionism halls, Turkmen leader shared his impression with Manuel Rabate. The Head of the State noted in the conversation that the role and place of art in the life of society and the history of human civilization is priceless. It supports the mutual understanding of the nations, equal and respectful dialog of cultures through the beauty of the world.
In the end, the President of Turkmenistan bade warm goodbye to the management of the museum and left for the complex of the monuments Wahat Al Kahrama.
