In order to successfully solve the tasks set by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on accelerated diversification of the country's gas industry, scientists and specialists of the Scientific Research Institute of Natural Gas of the State Concern "Turkmengaz" carried out the work to justify the most perspective vectors of its development.
This research institute is engaged in relevant research, issues of complex gas preparation and transportation, protection of field equipment against corrosion, control and diagnostics of its technical condition, solves geotechnological problems related to scientific support of geological exploration and drilling operations, participates in the development of gas and gas condensate fields of various degrees of complexity, etc.
As is known, our country is among the world powers that have the highest rating for hydrocarbon reserves, mainly natural gas. Therefore, the scientifically-based concept of the development of this industry is very relevant. Its primary goal is based on knowledge of geological regularities of distribution of hydrocarbon accumulations, search and exploration of oil and gas fields; ensure their transfer to the state balance.
The concept scientifically justifies the extraction of hydrocarbon raw materials in the required volumes and quality, including associated minerals, processing, as well as the sale of natural gas both on the domestic and foreign markets. Among the most important tasks is the diversification of the industry due to its provision with industrial-equipped gas fields prepared at the proper level, including those located at various stages of development, gas production and transportation, and increasing the processing of gas through the introduction of modern machinery and advanced technologies.
To replenish the resource base of the extractive and processing industries for the period up to 2030, the Institute provides scientific support for seismic exploration (2D, 3D) methods and geological exploration drilling works conducted by the State Corporation "Turkmengeology" to search for and explore new oil and gas fields: for gas in the eastern, for gas and, incidentally, for oil - in the central, as well as for oil - in the western regions of Turkmenistan.
The planned volumes of gas production are currently being carried out mainly at the expense of the developed fields Galkynysh, Dovletabad, Malai "Garaşsyzlygyň 10 ýyllygy", Elguyi, Bagadja, Gazlydepe, Korpeje, Nebitlidje, Akpatlavuk, Chekishler, within the contract area “Bagtyarlyk”, as well as due to the deposits of the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea.
In the future, to provide consumers with natural gas, it is planned to increase the production capacity by commissioning new and retrofitting old fields, developing promising oil and gas regions, including the Turkmen shelf of the Caspian Sea. In this case, the main emphasis will be placed on the search for sulfur-free gas and deposits rich in liquid hydrocarbons (oil and condensate). Gas fields with a low energy potential that do not meet the requirements for gas supply to gas pipelines for the external market are subsequently planned to be used for the needs of the domestic market.
Along with the development of new fields, the task is to create an industrial infrastructure for the preparation, processing and transportation of gas. The level of automation of technologies and technological flows of enterprises of the gas industry is designed to ensure its compliance with the highest environmental requirements. The concept envisages the introduction of energy-saving technologies and innovations, the improvement of organizational structures, training and retraining of specialists to enhance their professionalism.
Based on the feasibility study, the issue of using a method by which a certain part of natural gas transported abroad will be transported through pipelines and another in the form of liquefied and compressed gas in tankers is considered.
The concept provides for the transfer of the technical park of the enterprises of the State Concern "Turkmengaz" - vehicles, tractors and other equipment - to use as fuel compressed gas, which will be used in future in oil and gas and other sectors of the country's economy.
According to scientists, in the near future there will be fundamental changes in the structure of the petrochemical market due to the fact that traditionally received petrochemical products (olefins, arenas, terminal compounds) will be replaced by natural gas processing technologies. The introduction of innovations will allow producing polyvinyl chloride, adjusting the production of caustic soda, polystyrene, polyethylene terephthalate, etc.
Diversification of the gas chemical industry will give impetus to the development of its priority areas, in particular, to the growth of production of energy-efficient types such as synthetic liquid fuel, rubber and fibers, polymeric products, construction materials, and an increase in the volumes of other chemical products.
In this context, the activities of scientists and industry specialists will be directed, in particular, to the creation of a bank of scientific information and developments, the wide use of international cooperation opportunities, the achievement of new frontiers through the introduction of advanced world technologies.
